Eos A Political Win Sets To Mark in $309,000 EVD Futurity Trials


Eos A Political set the fastest time from 12 trials Saturday night for the $309,600 EVD Futurity at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 24, 2017—Eos A Political Win, a colt owned by Elite Oilfield Services, was the fastest qualifier from the 12 trials run on Friday night for the $309,600 Evangeline Downs Futurity.

Eos A Political Win won the third of the 12 trials by ¾-length over fellow qualifier Independence B in a time of :19.676 seconds over the fast track. That equals a speed index of 98.

The colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess was bred in Oklahoma by Rey D. or Celia Nieto.

He is trained by Rolando Almanza was ridden to victory by Jesse Levario. Eos A Political Win is out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare, Pithia. The win was the third in seven lifetime starts for the colt and the first-place purse of $3,000 raises his lifetime earnings to $82,551. He was second in the Grade 3 Speedhorse Futurity in July.

Trainer John Stinebaugh was the lone trainer to qualify two of the 10 finalists for the Evangeline Downs Futurity, although ironically, he won neither trial he qualified horses from the 3rd and 8th trials.

Vanessa Bartoo's Corona Ranger ended up the third-fastest qualifier with a time of :19.728 seconds for Stinebaugh, but the gelding was second in the eighth trial behind Capitan Jimbob.

Corona Ranger is a son of leading living sire of money earners Corona Cartel from the Azoom mare Azoom Babe. Gilbert Ortiz was aboard the Bollenbach Farms Oklahoma-bred.

The aforementioned Independence B, runner-up in the fastest trial, ended with the fifth fastest clocking of :19.792 seconds. Stinebaugh conditions the Inseperable colt owner Jerry Hill. Bielau Oaks bred the bay gelding in Texas from the Light On Cash mare Ls Honey Brown.

Graded-placed winner Captain Jimbo got his fourth career win in the 8th trial while posting the second fastest time of :19.685 seconds, also a 98 speed index.

Carlos Saldivar saddled the Desirio colt for owner Felix Martinez. Bred in Texas by the Corona Cartel mare War Silks, Captain Jimbob has banked nearly $70,000 this year. Mondesto Pina rode the sorrel colt bred by Robert and Stacey Martin. He was second in the Grade 3 Harrah's Entertainment Futurity and the Old South Futurity earlier this year.

Grade 2 Dash For Cash Futurity finalist Fdd Lajolla won the opening trial by half-a-length under jockey Raul Ramirez to get the fourth fastest time of :19.751 seconds.

Jorge Luis Barrera trains the FDD Dynasty gelding for owner Gilbert Morales. Garlyn Shelton is the breeder.

Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity runner-up This Is An Eagle was an impressive 1 ¾ length trial winner under jockey Francisco Calderon to get the 8th fastest time of :19.852 seconds, a 94 speed index.

Trainer Larry Koopyncinski saddled the TQHA Sale topper owned by Mary Lynne Thompson. A winner of five of seven starts including a second in the Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity, the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle has banked over $300,000 this year. Pete Scarmardo bred This Is An Eagle from the First Down Dash mare Lady Lilia, a half-sister to champion sire Desirio.

Desirio and FDD Dynasty were the only sires with multiple qualifiers.

Each of the 12 Evangeline Downs Futurity trials offered a purse of $5,000 and the Final will offer a purse of $309,600 with the winner earning $154,800. It will be one of four finals to be run on Saturday, December 16 at Evangeline Downs.
