Colts & Geldings Set For Schooling Races Friday at Delta Downs


Delta Downs will continue schooling races for 2-year-olds on Friday with 65 Colts and Geldings to participate in 11 220 yard races.

VINTON, LA—APRIL 5, 2017—In preparation of their upcoming live Quarter Horse racing season, set to kick off April 21st, Delta Downs will host two-nights of training races for two-year-olds this week.

Two-year-old fillies will take the stage on Thursday night with 14 races scheduled at 220 yards each (see related story). First post is 7:45 PM (CDT).

On Friday, it's the boy's turn as 65 colts and geldings, entered in the Lassie or Old South Futurities, take the stage in 11 races scheduled over 220 yards. First post is 7:45 PM (CDT).

A number of summer sale graduates will highlight Friday's night's training card. Some of the top sellers making their debut are:

  • Kenneth Roberts, Sr. will saddled Gunna Be Alright, a $40,000 LQHBA Yearling repurchase for Maxxiprime Enterprises LLC in the first race. The gelding by leading sire Heza Fast Dash is a brother to LQHBA Breeders' Futurity(RG1) winner Ol Time Preacher Man. David Alvarez is up.

  • Another Heza Fast Dash gelding, Heza Famous One, will head the second race for trainer William McIntosh and owner T M Ranch. Gilbert Ortiz will be aboard the first foal from a First Down Dash half-sister to champion and leading sire One Famous Eagle. Heza Famous One sold for $42,000 in the LQHBA Yearling Sale last August. Nick Castaneda is riding.

  • T M Ranch teams with trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr. in the 10th race with Leaving You Salty, a $38,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate by multiple stakes sire Coronas Leaving You. The brown gelding is a half-brother to stakes winner and track record holder Salty King Corona and G3-placed Shimmering Crystal.

  • The final trial will feature an $80,000 LQHBA purchase for T M Ranch. Also, trained by Roberts, the Heza Fast Dash colt is a half-brother to AQHA Racing Champion Jls Mr Bigtime and stakes winner Jls Book Of Psalms. Gilbert Ortiz has been named to ride
