BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 22, 2017—The winner of the state’s richest horse race last season, Tf Racee Runaway is one of 26 state-bred 3-year-olds entered in three Mardi Gras Derby (R) trials at Louisiana Downs on Sunday.

Tf Racee Runaway is trained by Lanny Keith for owner Tate Farms. The bay son of Sir Runaway Dash is coming off of a 2-year-old campaign during which he scored a neck victory in the November 19, $1-million Louisiana QHBA Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs.

Tf Racee Runaway drew post 3 and will be ridden by J.R. Ramirez in the first heat.

Other prominent Louisiana-bred sophomores entered include Bobby J. Barnett’s Jls Shakem Tee Cos, a gelded son of Tee Cos trained by Bobby Martinez. A $22,000 buy at the 2015 LQHBA Yearling Sale, the gelding will be making his first start since September 3, when he finished second, a neck behind winner Rdd Lajollanfastdash, in the 350-yard, $323,000 LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) at Fair Grounds Racecourse.

Jls Shakem Tee Cos drew post 4 and will be ridden by Damian Martinez in the third trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the 350-yard, $50,000-added Mardi Gras Derby final on March 18.
