Billy Montgomery Stakes Draws Ten Louisiana-Bred Sophomores


Oak Almighty is one of 10 state-bred 3-year-olds entered in Saturday’s $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes (R) at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA-—JANUARY 9, 2017—Oak Almighty, a homebred son of world champion Oak Tree Special racing for Earl Landry Jr. and Randy Rodrique, is one of 10 state-bred 3-year-olds entered in Saturday’s $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes (R) at Louisiana Downs.

Oak Almighty will be making his first start since November 19, when the gelding ran fourth, one length behind winner Tf Racee Runaway, in the 400-yard, $1-million Louisiana QHBA Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs, the state’s richest race for any breed. Trained by Miguel Rodriguez, Oak Almighty drew post 3 and will be ridden by Eddie Aceves.

Other contenders include Rosendo Valdez’s Shatto Stoli, a sorrel gelding by champion Stoli trained by Rosendo Valdez Jr. Shatto Stoli has earned $47,328 from 10 outs, and his two wins include a half-length victory in the 400-yard, $40,000 LQHBA Juvenile Invitational Stakes (R) at Evangeline.
