Louisiana Downs Cards Schooling Races for Harrah's Futurity Hopefuls


Seven schooling races for Harrah's Futurity hopefuls have been set for Friday at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 3, 2016—Louisiana Downs will conduct schooling races for 2-year-olds that remain eligible for the 2016 Grade 3 $250,000-est. Harrah's Entertainment Futurity on Friday (Feb. 5).

The track has scheduled seven races at distance of 220 yards to begin at 11:00 a.m. (CST). Thirty-eight Quarter Horse foals of 2014 will face off for the first time with five to six horses entered in each race.

Trails for the Harrah's Entertainment Futurity are set Tuesday March 1 the first official day AQHA 2-year-olds can make their debuts. The 300-yard final will be contested on closing day

One of the highly anticipated debuts from Friday's schooling races will come in Race 7 when $150,000 Ruidoso Sale Graduate R Imperial Princess will start for owner Mary Thompson and trainer Larry Kopycinski. The daughter of leading sire Walk Thru Fire is out of the RG3 winning Chicks A Blazin mare Thatsa Blazin Chick. R Imperial Princess is a sister to Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) runner up Fires Blazin ($369,985).

In Race 2, The California Girl, a $100,000 repurchase in the TQHA Yearling Sale last summer, will make her career debut for owner Kristen Ashley Paredes. Michael Taylor will saddle the daughter of Walk Thru Fire from the Entertainment Futurity(G2) winner Eyesa Jumpn ($460,270). The daughter of Eyesa Special has also produced three stakes-placed runners.

Louisiana Downs’ stakes schedule this season will be topped by the 300-yard, $300,000-est. Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) for state-bred juveniles on March 12 (trials Feb. 20*) and the aforementioned Grade 3 Harrah’s Futurity (G3) on closing day, Wednesday March 23.

Patrons who cannot attend the schooling races may watch them by going to the Louisiana Downs website prior to the 11:00 a.m. post and CLICKING HERE. Replays will also be available later that day.
