Five Bar Cartel Tops Tightly Contested First-Crop Juvenile Sire List

The top honor as leading first-crop sire of money earners for 2018 went to Five Bar Cartel by a margin of $186,614. In his first crop to race, the 2012 AQHA Racing Champion 2-year-old Colt sired 58 starters, 27 winners, 8 black type (13%), earners of $1,222,605 with average earnings per starter of more than $21,000.
Equally impressive in his first crop, Coronado Cartel ended the year with 28 winners (#1) from 52 starters, 8 black type (16%), earnings of $1,035,991 and average earnings per starter of nearly $20,000.
He was the only first crop sire to get an "open" Grade 1 winner with Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Blue Corazon SI 88 ($430,852). He is also the sire Easy Jet Stakes winner Fly N Tell SI 91 ($57,152), QHRAI SSA Futurity runner-up Pritty SI 103 ($59,711), FL Lady Bug Stakes runner-up Shez A Cartel Chick SI 88 ($48,938) and Jaguar Rocket Futurity runner-up Coronados Quicksilver SI 97 ($44,545).

His son Highest Fire, who has recently relocated to Dunn Ranch in Oklahoma for the 2019 breeding season, came in at #3 with earnings of $446,960. From only 20 starters he has nine winners, 1 black type and average earnings per starter of more than $22,300.
Highest Fire's first crop was led by Heritage Place Futurity(G1) runner-up Wokatee On Fire SI 93 ($257,041), who was also a finalist in the Grade 1 All American Futurity (did not run in final) and the Southwest Juvenile Championship.
His other performers include Tdz Slinkys Fire SI 97 (3 wins at 2, $49,301, finalist LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1), Bullyonfire SI 94 (2 wins at 2, $39,58, 4th LQHBA Laddie Futurity-RG2), Fire Cat Sm SI 84 (2 wins at 2, $20,5200, Corona At A High SI 85 (winner at 2, $20,070), etc.

From limited starters in his first crop to race Dash Master Jess sired 7 winners, 4 black type placed (20%), earners of $220,258 with average earnings per starter just over $11,000.
His top money earner Jess Master Angel SI 98 ($64,507) was a multiple-graded stakes-finalist, including the Texas Classic Futurity(G1). Dash Msater Jess is also the sire of TQHA Sale Futurity(RG3) third-place finisher Hot Beer SI 90 ($54,016), Gillespie County Fair Futurity runner-up Dashing Sweet Brjuo SI 92 ($17,719), etc.
Habits Secret rounded out the top five with six winners, 1 stakes winner and earnings of $178,868. Heartland Futurity winner Packin Secrets SI 93 ($55,33) was Habits Secrets leading money earners. The son of All American Futurity winner No Secrets Here stands at Midwest Equine & Veterinary Hospital.
Completing the Top Ten First-Crop Sires of Money Earners for 2018 were: #6 Jess Being Valiant ($82,482), #7 Majestic Cartel (an unraced brother to Five Bar Cartel with $54,843), #8 Im A Fancy Pyc ($50,898), #9 Little Pyc ($41,595) and #10 Jubuti Eagle SA ($36,493).
