Lucky Dice Headlines Grade 2, $296,745 Firecracker Futurity

VINTON, LA—JULY 17, 2021—Lucky Dice, a multiple graded stakes placed son of One Sweet Jess racing for J & J Stone Co. Inc., is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Tuesday’s 350-yard, $296,745 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at Delta Downs.
A $13,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, Lucky Dice has earned $172,977 from four starts in Texas and Louisiana. The sorrel colt’s early season record includes a second-place finish in the 300-yard, $302,000 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs in March, and a third-place run in the 330-yard, $732,000 Sam Houston Futurity (G2) on May 28.
Lucky Dice drew post 8 and will be ridden by J.R. Ramirez for trainer Roberto Madrigal.
Other contenders include Christopher A. Villatoro’s Mr Spud, a bay son of The Louisiana Cartel trained by Rosendo Valdez Jr. and a $7,200 buy at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale. On June 1, the gelding ran second, a half of a length behind winner BP Fling In A Wagon, in the 330-yard, $96,000 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.
Mr Spud drew the rail post and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez.
