Average, Median Rises At LQHBA Fall Mixed Sale


The LQHBA conducted their 2019 Fall Mixed Sale on Saturday at the Equine Sales of Louisiana, LLC sale pavilion in Opelousas.

OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER16, 2018—Sellers enjoyed an increase in average and median prices during the just concluded 2019 LQHBA Fall Mixed Sale today (Saturday) in Opelousas, Louisiana.

LQHBA reported gross receipts on the 107 head sold today at $460,100, a slight decrease from last year's $492,100 on 133 head, however 20% less horses were sold in a smaller catalog. The sale average rose 16% from $3,700 in 2018 to $4,300 this year and the median hit $3,200, a 10% increase from $2,900 in 2018.

The pair of yearlings tied for the highest-yearling seller at $16,000.

Benjamin Moya signed a $16,000 sale ticket for Hip 89, Custom Make, a colt by leading Louisiana sire Jess Louisiana Blue consigned by Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent. The sorrel colt out of First Down Corona, by First Down Dash, is a half-brother to 8 ROM including stakes-placed Oak Tree Corona ($75,483). This is the family of champion Corona Chick.

Benito Garcia paid $16,000 for Hip 115 Jess Perry A Corona, a daughter of multiple stakes sire Coronas Leaving You from the Mr Jess Perry half-sister to champion Brimmerton and G1 winner Gone Celebrating, Jess Fitting. Damian Trahan, Agent for Dave Broussard consigned the half-sister to five ROM winners including Heza Fitting SI 92 ($66,560), etc.

Jerry Deville purchased the high-selling broodmare, Hip 125 Kite Runner for $16,000. The 9-year-old daughter of champion sire Bigtime Favorite sold in-foal to leading sire Jess Louisiana Blue. Out of RG2 winner Jewels Fortune, by First Down Jewel, Kite Runner, is a half-sister to five black type including RG2 winner Louisiana Jewels ($312,725), stakes winner Cartels Fortune ($128750), and Old South Futurity winner Big Daddy Jewel ($64,200 at 2, 2019), etc.

Luis Roberto Lozano was the sale's leading buyer with 10 purchases grossing $48,800. Gary Aber purchased three head for $18,500 and Vincente Velasquez had two head for $16,700.

Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent was the leading consignor or agent with nine head grossing $66,800. Grant Farms, LLC had three head for $34,000 and Montgomery Equine Center sold four head for $19,500.

Jess Louisiana Blue was the leading sale sire of yearlings (by average with two or more sold) with two head averaging $13,350. Mr Piloto had two for $12,000 and Coronas Leaving You had two head average $9,550.

Jess Louisiana Blue was also the leading sale covering sire (by average with two or more sold) with two in-foal mares averaging $11,350. Mr Piloto had four in-foal mares average $6,275.
