Mr Catfish Gets Up In Louisiana Downs Feature Allowance on Wednesday


Mr Catfish (#3), under jockey Rene Hernandez, defeats Bjs Five Bar (#1) in an $11,000 feature allowance on Wednesday at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 22, 2023–Making his 4-yeaer-old debut, Mr Crawfish got up at the wire Wednesday to win an 350 yard $11,000 feature allowance for 3-Year-Olds and Up, who have never won two races, at Louisiana Downs.

With a steady drive under jockey Rene Hernandez, Mr Crawfish defeated Bjs Five Bar by a neck while completing the task in :17.990 seconds, an 88 speed index into a 6 mph headwind.

It was the first start since an off-the-board performance in the Grade 3 LQHBA Breeders' Derby last December. The $6,600 winner's purse boosted the son of Prospect To The Top's earnings total to $39,078.

Brenda Foster conditions the Louisiana-bred gelding for owner Jose Guzman. TJS Farms, Inc. bred the bay 4-year-old from Jls Crawfish Pie by The Crawfish.

Runner-up Bjs Five Bar, ridden by jockey Arnulfo Gutierrez, picked up $2,200 for her second-place finish. Trainer Olegario Ortiz saddled the daughter of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel for owner Joe Ortiz. Benny Migues bred the Louisiana-bred filly from the Streakin La Jolla mare Lauri La Jolla. The 3-year-old has banked $22,860 in 10 career starts.

A length back Bt Magic Game earned $1,210 for owner Robert J. Touchet, II.  Trainer Mario Truillo, Jr. named Mario Truillo to ride the Game Patriot colt out of Ms Magic Toast by Toast To Dash. Lightly raced the 3-year-old gelding has earned $15,830 in five starts. Robert J. Touchet is the breeder.

Flint River, Rogue Wants A Candy and Dixie Moon Jagger completed the field.
