Pirates Fast Cash Is Game Winner In Wednesdays $11,000 Louisiana Downs Feature


Pirates Fast Cash, ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, wins the $11,000 Louisiana Downs Feature Allowance by 1/2-length on Wednesday.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 8, 2023–After just breaking his maiden in late December, Pirates Fast Cash takes his second career win in the $11,000 Louisiana Downs Feature Allowance on Wednesday afternoon.

With13-5 odds in the gate, Pirates Fast Cash’s 350-yard victory paid $9.20 to win. Guided by Gilbert Ortiz, the son of Jet Black Patriot clocked a 92 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind in :17.852 seconds winning by 1/2-length over Jjs Lace.

Conditioned by Vann Haywood, Pirates Fast Cash’s $6,600 winning share of the purse upped his earnings to $20,200. The three-year-old gelding owned and bred by Marvin Klare is out of Pilgrims Pirate by Hotdoggin. 

Runner up Jjs Lace, ridden by J. Ramirez, broke in with a late run coming up short for second by a nose over Rapid Eyes and jockey Arturo Alvarez.

After taking his freshman year off, Jjs Lace broke his maiden just last year in May and placed fifth in the Evangeline Downs Derby in December. Trained by Carlos Fierro the son of Five Bar Cartel has $31,749 in lifetime earnings.

Breeders Jim & Jackie Berard sold Jjs Lace for $12,000 to his current owner Olvera Ranch Distributors, LLC in the 2020 LQHBA Yearling Sale. The four-year-old gelding is out of Lethal N Lace by Dash To Chivato.

Third place finisher Rapid Eyes was favored to win the Feature Allowance race but was out kicked. The daughter of Mr Piloto broke her maiden in May of 2022 but has yet to return to the winner’s circle leaving her with $20,450 in the bank.

Xavier Scott saddled the three-year-old filly for owner CB Racing Stables. Bred by DGC LLC and Damian Trahan, Rapid Eyes is out of Eyes Like Rapid by Mr Eye Opener.

The remaining order of finish was Dixie Moon Jagger, Jm Tee Cos Mon Coeur, First Time Pilot and Mda Five Bar Demand.
