Trainer Santiago Villaseca Sends Out Two Fastest In Louisiana Futurity Schooling Races


Chendo, under jockey Eleazar Hernandez, easily winning the opening race on Tuesday to set the fastest time from 46 2-year-old Quarter Horses who made their debut at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–FEBRUARY 7, 2023–Trainer Santiago Villaseca, with jockey Eleazar Hernandez riding, sent out the two fastest 2-year-olds from eight training races conducted today at Louisiana Downs for 2-year-olds who remain eligible for the Grade 3 $350,000-est. Louisiana Futurity.

The Louisiana Futurity(G3) trials are set March 2 and the 300 yard final will be contested on Saturday, March 25.

Chendo, a colt by last year's #3 Leading First-Crop Sire of Money Earners RC Me Leaving You, raced to a :12.375 clocking in the first race to get the fastest time of the day.  Carlos Gabriel Castro owns the half-brother to stakes-placed Rc Jet Two.  This is the family of All American Futurity(G1) runner-up Sudden Thoughts and Champion Eyesa Special.

Muddys Black Mamba, an $11,000 TQHA repurchase racing for owner Sunset Well Service Inc., finished second to get the third fastest clocking of :12.536 seconds. Trainer Jorge Valenzuela named jockey Raul Hernandez, Jr. to ride the Muddy Watters filly out of Twenty If U Make by No Secrets Here.

Muddys  Black Mamba is a sister to Sws Twenty Three, a finalist in last year's Louisiana Futurity(G3).

Villaseca sent out A Kool Toole to win the fifth race by half-a-length over Lightning Trend to post the second fastest time of :12.525 seconds.

Hernandez was also riding the Jody O' Toole colt out of Grade 2 finalist Miss Chivatos Pie by Dash To Chivato. Racing for owner Cynthia Cruz, A Kool Toole is a half-brother to TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity(RG3) finalist A Kool Kiss.

Trainer Wendy Garcia saddled Mr Prize B to victory in the sixth trial to get the fourth fastest time of :12.537 seconds under jockey Modesto Pena. Salazar Stables LLC owns the $45,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate by world champion sire Freighttrain B.

The brown colt is out Fast Prize Shana, a Shazoom sister to stakes winner Fast Prize Zoom and stakes-placed Fast Prize Tracy.  The second dam is the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Fast First Prize, a sister to leading sire Heza Fast Dash. This is the family of many graded stakes winners including Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Apollitical Chad.

Other sires with winners today were Muddy Watters, One Valiant Hero, Whirlaway Red, Lil Kool Wagon and Jess Good Candy.

Wednesday, February 8 the Louisiana Downs will feature 16 non-wagering 220 yard schooling races for Louisiana bred Quarter Horse 2-year-olds who remain eligible for the restricted Grade 2 $400,000 estimated Mardi Gras Futurity.
