VINTON, LA–SEPTEMBER 2, 2022–Rh Senor Milagro and jockey Guadalupe Lucio, Jr. pull an upset victory in the $30,000 De Saix Stakes at Delta Downs Friday night.

Rh Senor Milagro broke from the three hole in second place drifting out but readily regained the lead at first call and kept it to the wire. The gelding son of Mr Piloto clocked an 83 speed index in :16.925 seconds for a length victory over Konnan Cartel.

As 15-1 long shots, Rh Senor Milagro and Lucio, Jr.’s 330-yard stakes victory paid betting spectators $33.30 to win and $19.90 to show on a $2.00 wager.

With a record of three wins and one second from five starts, Rh Senor Milagro is one of three horses on the field who had never competed for stakes competition prior to the De Saix Stakes.

Trained by Miguel Pizana, the $18,000 winner’s share for his first stakes victory upped the gelding’s lifetime earnings to $50,600 for owners Cuadra Herradura, LLC. Bred by Rancho Herradura, LLC of Louisiana, Rh Senor Milagro is out of Miss Mandy Marie by Jet Black Patriot

Ridden by Ubaldo Luna, Konnan Cartel dueled for the finish line and held on for a second place finish by a neck over Jl Apollitical Miss. Conditioned by Kenneth Roberts, Sr, the son of Five Bar Cartel had the highest earnings of the nine horse field and with 11/10 odds at the post was wagered to do well in the juvenile stakes.

Konnan Cartel has lit the board 6 out of 7 starts with 3 wins and $136,127 from his freshman campaign for owner Dania Castellanos. The Louisiana bred gelding placed third in the Lee Berwick Futurity (G1) in July and fourth in the Laddie Futurity (G2) in May. He is bred by Luis Armando Castellanos and out of The Jet Black Patriot mare Jet Black Chiraq.

Post-time favorite Jl Apollitical Miss, led by Victor Urieta, Jr, placed third in the De Saix Stakes. The daughter of champion sire Apollitical Blood was saddled by Josue Ponce and the third place effort upped her earnings to $69,897 for owner Josefina Guzman.

With a race record of 2-2-1 from five starts, Jl Apollitical Miss placed second in the Firecracker futurity (G2) earlier in July. Bred by Juan Ramon Lozano, Sr, she was sold to the late Jose Guzman last year for $19,000 in the LQHBA Yearling Sale. Her dam is Special Sultry by Eyesa Special.

Mollys Leaving you, Jrs Tonyas Majestic, Wagons Ho 509, Lookin Fast N Famous, Llc Payaso Ed and Bayou Chill completed the field.
