Grade 1 Placed One Fine V Top Qualifier In $305,865 Firecracker Futurity-G2 Trials at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA–JUNE 17, 2022— Coming off a third-place finish in the $1.1 million Heritage Place Futurity(G1) in her last start, One Fine V dominated the last of seven trials Friday night for the Grade 2 Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Southeast Louisiana racetrack on Saturday, July 9th to vie for the winners' share of a $305,865 purse going 350 yards.

Under jockey Victory Ureita, Jr., One Fine V broke alertly then widened to win by 3-1/2 lengths while garnering the top qualifying time of :17.469 seconds, a 93 speed index over a "Wet Fast" sealed racing surface.

The fastest of three Firecracker Futurity finalists saddled by trainer Josue Ponce, One Fine V scored her second career win four starts for owners Jose Maria Garza and Mario Vazquez. Sammy Valeriano bred the sorrel filly in Oklahoma from the Corona Cartel mare Sera Fina.

One Five V's third dam is a sister to champion and world champion sire Stoli who is out champion All American Futurity(G1) winner Strawberry Silk.

Third in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity on May 28th One Five V has earned $145,277 this year. She is a $17,500 Heritage Place 2021 Winter Mixed Sale graduate.

Ponce's other qualifiers were 3rd fastest Jl Apollitical Miss (Apollitical Blood) and 6th fastest Moonflash Winners (First Moonflash).

Pappacito, a $30,000 Heritage Place September Yearling graduate, got his second consecutive win in as many starts in the third trial to get the second fastest time of :17.608 seconds, an 89 speed index over the "Wet Fast" sealed surface.

Trainer M. Heath Taylor sent out the son of leading sire Ivory James for owner Robin L. Redding. Bred by champion breeder Bobby D. Cox, from the Apollitical Jess mare Apolitical Pac, Pappacito broke his maiden in trial for the Sam Houston Futurity(G2) at first asking May 13th.   Gilbert Ortiz had the riding call to win by 2-3/4 lengths.  

The Taylor barn also qualified 5th fastest Chimera (A Revenant).

Delta Downs will conduct a eight-race program to wrap up the race week on Saturday. The card features trials for this year’s $177,045 Firecracker Derby. Fans will also be treated to exotic animal racing with camels and zebras. The first exotic animal race will go off at 4:30 pm and the first Quarter Horse race will take place at 5:30 pm.
