Dashing Jess Cuervo Prevails In Louisiana Downs Allowance

BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 8, 2022—Under a hand ride by jockey David Alvarez, Dashing Jess Cuervo held off Swamp Eagle to win a $15,000 Allowance for Louisiana-Bred 3-year-old & up, on February 8that Louisiana Downs.

Dashing Jess Cuervo completed the 400 yards in :20.103 seconds, equaling a 90 speed index into 4 mph headwind, to get her sixth win in 14 career starts. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Jess Cuervo earned $9,000 for her effort. She is owned by Rosendo Valdez.

Rosendo Valdez, Jr. saddled the bay filly from the Strong Hope mare Dashing Well. Bred by William Fournet, Dashing Jess Cuervo was a finalist in the Mardi Gras Derby last year. She has earned $66,246.

Swamp Eagle, a multiple graded-placed son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash, picked up $3,000 for second-place. Trainer Francisco Campos, Jr. named jockey Everardo Rodriguez to ride the 5-year-old gelding for owner Fausto G. Mendoza. David Dunn bred the $97,556 earner from the One Famous Eagle mare Gee Whit.

Graded stakes winner Jla Indy Rogue finished one-length off the leaders to earn $1,650 for third. Jockey Russel Leblanc rode the Heza Fast Rogue filly for owners Karen McKinnon and Annette Foul. Bred by Joanie Gore bred the 3-year-old filly out of French Indy (TB) by Promissory (TB).

Trained by Robert Meche, Jla Indy Rogue was making her first start since winning the Grade 3 Evangeline Downs Futurity December 30th. She has earned $202,030 from nine career starts.
