Sheza Freighttrain T Takes The $30,000 Delta Dash Stakes On Opening Day Card

VINTON, LA—MAY 10, 2021—Delta Downs opened its 2021 American Quarter Horse season on Monday afternoon with a nine-race program.

The first stakes races of the season saw Patrick Richardson’s Sheza Freighttrain T take the $30,000 Delta Dash Stakes with jockey Rolando Pino in the saddle.

The Eric Long trainee covered 250 yards over a fast track in a time of :12.841 seconds, which equaled a staggering speed index of 105.

The win by Shea Freighttrain T kept her record perfect at Delta Downs, three-for-three. Overall, she’s won six of 10 races including a victory in last year’s $329,000 Lassie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs. She took home another $18,000 on Monday and her career bankroll now stands at $346,259.

Sheza Freighttrain T is a 3-year-old brown filly by Freighttrain B, out of the Carters Cartel mare Cloning Around. She was bred in Louisiana by Rusty J. Trahan.

Sent to the gate as the 8-5 favorite, Sheza Freighttrain B paid $5.20 to win, $3.80 to place and $2.60 to show. Mag 1 finished second and paid $5.20 to place and $3.80 to show. The third-place finisher was Katies Magic, who was worth $3.40 to show.

Runner-up Mag 1 races for owner Mag 3 Racing and is conditioned by Saul Ramirez, Jr. Rolando Cabrera had the riding call aboard the graded-placed son of Mr Jess Kue from the Oak Tree Special mare Oak Tree Chic. Bred by H & M Racing, Mag 1 picked up $6,000 for today's effort, pushing his earnings mark to $109,720.

Kalies Magic finished a head back to earn $3,300 for third. Trainer Trey Ellis saddled the Ajs Fast Dash filly out of Ms Wanda Magic by Mr Jess Perry. Bobby Ransom had the riding call for owner-breeder Arnold J. Trahan.

Lil Jess Rogue, La Savanne, Mr Tereso, Ms Cruzin Fast and Packin A Punch completed the field.

Delta Downs will continue its opening week of racing on Tuesday with a 10-race program. The program will include seven trials for this year’s $25,000-added Old South Futurity and the $50,000 Open Me a Corona Stakes (RG2). First post time is at 3pm Central Time.
