Lightly Raced Rumor Goin Round Steps Up In Grade 3 Evangeline Downs Futurity Win


Rumor Goin Round, under jockey Victory Urieta, Jr., breaks her maiden in the $311.265 Evangeline Downs Futurity (G3) Saturday night.

OPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 12, 2020—In only her second career start Rumor Goin Round cored a 13-1 upset off an impressive 1-¼ length win over Louisiana Blue Fire to win the $317,265 Evangeline Downs Futurity(G3) Saturday night.

Under jockey Victor Urieta, Jr., Rumor Goin Round completed the 400 yards in :19.489 seconds, equaling a 99 speed index. The daughter of leading sire Favorite Cartel finished second in her career debut to fastest qualifier Special Mariposa. She picked up $158,633 for the win, boosting her earning total to just under $160,000.

Trainer Alonso Neri saddled the $26,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale Graduate to her first career win for owner Juan Pastrana. Out of the stakes winning Corona Cartel mare, Attack The Cartel, Rumor Goin Round became the third stakes winner for her dam. Rainbow Derby(G1) runner-up Separate Tac is the second dam.

Bred in California by Steve Burns, DVM, the bay filly is from the family of last year's Lassie Futurity(RG1) winner Tf Shez Jess Dashin.

Runner-up Louisiana Blue Fire earned $53,935 for owner-breeder Janita Selman. Trey Ellis named jockey Juan Garcia, Jr. to ride the son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue. The New Mexico-bred filly out of Where Love Began, by Walk Thru Fire, has won wo of six starts and earned $62,485 this year.

Fastest qualifier Special Mariposa, under jockey Everardo Rodriguez, finished a neck back to earn $31,727 for third. Adrian Huitron saddled the daughter of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel for owners Maribel Hernandez and Martha Nevarez. Bred in Texas by Bob and Jerry Gaston, from the Stoli mare Pampered Silk, Special Mariposa was second in the Dash For Cash Juvenile two races back. She has earned nearly $60,000 .

Rumor Goin Round paid $28.80 to win, $11.60 to place and $9.40 to show. Louisiana Blue Fire returned $16.20 to place and $7.60 to show, while Special Mariposa came in third and paid $5.80 to show. The 2-1 post-time favorite, Pyc Painted Streaker, did not fire on Saturday night and finished seventh.

Completing the order of finish were Bp Fancy Fling, Fear The Dragon, Won Famous Dash, Pyc Painted Streaker, Power Prize, Tee Britt and D Cosmic Cartel.
