Mpshinning, Eysa Jess Jumpn Highlight Qualifiers to LQHBA Derby at Evangeline

OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 16, 2019—Mpshinning and jockey Victor Urieta, Jr. set the fastest time for the $280,661 LQHBA Breeders' Derby at Evangeline Downs on Saturday night as the winner of the last of three 400-yard trials.

Mpshinning's final time of :19.722 was the fastest of the night and earned him a 94 speed index. The Mr Piloto colt is trained by Adrian Huitron for owner Larry Boudreaux. He was bred in Louisiana by Jon and Donna McPherson, out of Shinningperrydash, by First to Shine.

This was the first win of the year in five starts for Mpshinning, who won the LQHBA Louisiana Millions Futurity (RG1) as a 2-year-old. He was second in the Dash for Cash Futurity (G2) and the Dash for Cash Derby (G2) and has career earnings of $633,536 to date.

Barjaxs and jockey Donald Watson finished a head behind Mpshinning and posted the second fastest overall time of :19.740.

Barjaxs, still in search of a first career stakes win, has qualified to several previous stakes, including the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1). He is trained by Kenny Roberts, Sr. for owner Ed Peters. Gini Crawford bred the gelding in Louisiana, by Jess Louisiana Blue and out of the First Down Dash mare Elealicious.

Eysa Jess Jumpn and jockey Pedro Espinosa won the first trial by a length and a half in an easy win. The final time for the first trial, :19.828, was the third fastest overall and earned Eysa Jess Jumpn a speed index of 91.

Eysa Jess Jumpn earned her ninth consecutive win in the trial; she is undefeated in eight starts in 2019 and is 13 for 16 lifetime with $762,642 earned. Accomplishments to date for the multiple graded stakes winner include wins in the Dash for Cash Derby (G2) at Lone Star, the Sam Houston Derby (G3) and the Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs in 2018.

The daughter of Heza Fast Dash is out of Jess Jumpn, by Mr Jess Perry, and was bred in Louisiana by D & S Racing LLC.

Eysa Jess Jumpin is owned by Jose Estrada Quarter Horses and is trained by Fructuoso Huitron.

Each of the three LQHBA Breeders Derby trials offered a purse of $10,000 and the winner’s share in the $280,661.88 final will be $124,894.54. The LQHBA Breeders Derby final will be run at Evangeline Downs on Saturday, December 7.
