Liarliar Hocksonfire Battles Cajun King for Top Mark in Oklahoma Horsemen's Mystery Futurity Trials


Liarliar Hocksonfire holds off Cajun King to record the top qualifying time for the Oklahoma Horsemen's Mystery Futurity at Will Rogers Downs.

CLAREMORE, OK—OCTOBER 27, 2019—Liarliar Hocksonfire held off Cajun King in the first of eight trials Sunday at Will Rogers Downs for the Oklahoma Horsemen's Mystery Futurity to get the top qualifying time.

Ridden by jockey James Flores, Liarliar Hocksonfire completed the 350 yards in :17.651 seconds, equaling a 93 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind on a racetrack rated good (sealed), to set the bar.

Josue Ponce conditions the stakes-placed son of a first-crop leading sire Kiss My Hocks for owners Jose Guzman and Rito Soso. Bred in Oklahoma by Blazin Farms and Maze Conda, from the This Snow Is Royal mare Blazin Fire, Liarliar Hocksonfire has compiled a (6) 2-1-1 record this season and banked over $60,00.

The sorrel gelding was second in the Fl Lady Bug Stakes at Remington Park and a finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity(RG1).

The aforementioned Cajun King held on for the second fastest time of :17.699 seconds, a 92 speed index. Longtime leading trainer Eddie D. Willis saddled with jockey Jimmy Brooks getting the riding call.

Cajun King, a son of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel, races for owner-breeder Able Flores. A finalist in the Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity and the Heritage Place Juvenile, the brown gelding has earned $30,097 this year.

Cartel Apollo and jockey Daniel Torres won the second trial by half-a-length to get the third fastest time of :17.709 seconds, a 91 speed index. Hipolito Michel-Valverde saddled the lightly raced son of second-crop sire Coronado Cartel for owner Raul Banuelos, Jr.

Out of the Apollo (TB) mare Apollosattraction, Cartel Apollo finished third in his only start, a maiden at Will Rogers October 6. Levings Racing LLC is the breeder.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Will Rogers Downs on Saturday, November 9 to vy for the winner's share of a $189, 136 purse.
