Sir Runway Dash Hits Sire Trifecta With Mardi Gras Futurity Win

BOSSIER CITY, LA--MARCH 17, 2018--Multiple stakes sire Sir Runaway Dash completed a sire stakes trifecta on Saturday when Guidry Pride II won the $310,466 Mardi Gras Futurity at Louisiana Downs.

The prior two stakes races Saturday at Louisiana Downs—the Streakin La Jolla Stakes and the Mardi Gras Derby—were also won by offspring sired by the son of all-time leading sire First Down Dash.

Under jockey Juan Garcia. Jr., Guidry Pride II overcame an early bump to get up at the wire over Tdz Louisiana Toast in the first official futurity of 2018. The Sir Runaway Dash colt completed the 300 yards in :15.370 seconds to earn a 98-speed index over the fast racetrack.

"The team sharpened him (Guidry Pride II) for the final and he ran a great race,” jockey Garcia said after the race.

An overflowing winner's circle was on hand Saturday at Louisiana Downs to help the winning connections of Guidry Pride II accept the Mardi Gras Futurity stakes trophy.

Owner Eduardo Juarez purchased the gray colt for $6,500 from his breeders, Johnny and Cynthia Guidry, at the 2017 LQHBA Yearling Sale.

Trainer Wendy Garcia saddled Guidry Pride II to his first career win. The colt was the ninth fastest qualifier in the February 24th trials when he finished a nose off Wild Card Patriot.

"He ran a little green in trials like babies do, but we are so excited to win the final," Wendy said in the winner's enclosure. "It's a family affair for us," she said referring to her brother Juan who had the riding call.

Out of the Panther Mountain mare Guidrys Boodie Doo, Guidry Pride II earned $144,030 for the win.

Tdz Louisiana Toast, a son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue, was out nodded at the wire under jockey Luis Vivanco. The $12,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate races for owner Juan Martinez Labastida and trainer Miguel Rodriguez.

Tony Doughtie bred the gelding from the Toast To Dash mare Shes A Royal Toast. Tdz Louisiana Toast earned $54,111 for his effort after the purse redistribution is announced.

Flamin Hot Fortune, an LQHBA repurchase for $15,000, finished a nose back in the blanket finish to get third. Winless in two starts the daughter Jet Black Patriot was the 8th fastest qualifier after finishing second in the second fastest trial on February 24.

Jose Garcia conditions the sorrel filly for owner K K Horse Racing. Bred by Brandon Trahan, from the Toast To Dash mare Toast To Fortune, Flamin Hot Fortune earned $32,006 for her effort.

Guidry Pride II returned $15 to win, $6.60 to place and $5.40 to show. Tdz Louisiana Toast paid $3.60 to place and $3 to show and Flamin Hot Fortune returned $5.40 to show.

The Mighty Moose, Igottarampage, Hott Chocolate and Ms Pilot Tee completed the field.

Fastest qualifier Quick To Flirt and Tf Lil Back Runaway were scratched by the stewards. Wild Card Patriot was scratched by her trainer.
