Jls Tee Cos Jr Tops The Field In The $41,649 Louisiana Downs Maiden Stake At Harrah's Louisiana Down

BOSSIER CITY, LA--FEBRUARY 10, 2018--Saturday's feature at Harrah's Louisiana Downs was the $41,649 Louisiana Downs Maiden Stake. The field of nine accredited Louisiana-bred 3,4 and 5-year-olds earned their berths to the final in trials run on January 20.

A muddy race track was no obstacle for Pina-Garcia Ranch and Gonzalez Racing's

Jls Tee Cos Jr, who broke his maiden in today's final. The 3-year-old son of Tee Cos out of the Captain Courage mare Fastgirlshavemorefun was bred by Jls -Speedhorse Ranch Inc. and set the second-fastest qualifying time in trials. Trained by Wendy Garcia, the bay gelding drew the rail with jockey Juan F. Garcia, Jr. in the irons. He broke well and covered 350-yards over the muddy going in :17.864, winning by a neck.

"We felt he would run well," said Garcia. "He got hurt last year in his trial for the Mardi Gras Futurity and we had to give him some time off. At Evangeline, he ran third in his trial for the LQHBA Louisiana Million and set the second-fastest time for this stake."

Garcia watched the race from home as her daughter was battling the flu. She was pleased with the win and gave credit to her team.

"We are a family-based operation," she added. "I have to thank my husband and brother and everyone for their hard work. Jls Tee Cos Jr is paid into the Mardi Gras Derby, but we may wait until Delta to give him a little more time."

Ninth-fastest qualifier Dales Cartel got up for second under rider Everardo Rodriguez. The 3-year-old son of Stoli, trained by Carlos Saldivar, is still a maiden, but ran a solid race for owner Jose O. Barron.

inishing a half-length behind him was Rogelio Marquez, Jr.'s Razzaroni, The gelded son of One Famous Brioni had won his last two races, setting the third-fastest qualifying time in trials.

Completing the superfecats was Rf Shez Leaving You, a 3-year-old daughter of Coronas Leaving You bred and owned by Tim and Jennie Rogers.

Izit Real, fastest qualifier Da Pool Do, Rf a Faster Chick, Little Toy Guns and Yawls Danny completed the order of finish. Atimely Touch was an early scratch.

Jls Tee Cos Jr, sent off as the second choice in the wagering, paid $10.20 for the win. He earned $18,743 for his first win in five starts, increasing his career earnings to $22,765.

Louisiana Downs Dates and Post Times

The 2018 Quarter Horse racing season at Harrah's Louisiana Downs got underway on Saturday, January 6. The 46-day meet includes 12 stakes highlighted by the first official championship for 2-year-olds, the $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity on March 17. Live racing will take place Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a 1:00 p.m. (Central) post time and will continue through March 21.
