Cute Mic Jagger Gets Up In Record Time to Win Esplande Stakes


Cute Mic Jagger(#3) battles stablemate Jess Bein The Hero(#4) for the win in Saturday's $35,000 Esplande Stakes at Fairgrounds Racecourse in New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 26, 2017—Graded stakes winner Cute Mic Jagger got up at the wire to defeat posttime favorite Jess Bein The Hero by a nose in the $35,000 Esplande Stakes at Fairgrounds Racecourse in New Orleans Saturday.

Ridden by jockey Damian Martinez, Cute Mic Jagger completed the 350 yards in stakes record time of :17.205 seconds, a 105-speed index into a 10-mph crosswind.

Trainer Manuel Rodriguez saddled the son of Oak Tree Special to his sixth career win for owner Jagger Horse Racing. The $21,000 winner's purse boosted his career mark to nearly $175,000.

Bred in Louisiana by Janell Simson, from the Dash Ta Fame mare Shannons Fame, Cute Mic Jagger won the RG3 Mr Jess Perry Stakes at Louisiana Downs in January and was second in the Open Me A Corona Stakes at Delta Downs in April.

Coming off a win in the RG3 Miss Polly Classic on June 24, Jess Bein The Hero dueled throughout, but was out-nodded at the wire to finish second for owner Juan Martinez-Labastida. Also, trained by Miguel Rodriguez, the Valiant Hero 4-year-old earned $5,000 for his effort. Curtis Crenwelge bred the black colt in Texas from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Braggin. Santiago Mendez was up.

Multiple graded stakes-placed Cobalt Creek finished ¾'s back to earn a third-place check of $2,750. John Stinebaugh conditions the son of Walk Thru Fire for owner VWP Jr., Inc. Jim Strellman and Bill Dale bred Cobalt Creek in Missouri from the Check Him Out mare Checknbac. Gilbert Ortiz had the riding assignment.

Jess Blue Intriguing and Tf Little Rowdy completed the field.
