Wild Tycoon Gets Second Straight Stakes With Grade 3 Develop A Plan


Wild Tycoon, under jockey Everardo Rodriguez, winning the Grade 3 Develop A Plan Stakes on Saturday at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA—MAY 27, 2017—Under jockey Everardo Rodriguez Wild Tycoon put in an impressive rally to defeat Cobalt Creek by 1 ¼ lengths in the $25,000 Grade 3 Develop A Plan Stakes on Saturday night at Delta Downs.

Owned by Rogelio Marquez, Jr., Wild Tycoon completed the 350 yards in :17.365 seconds, a 98-speed index into a 5 mph crosswind. It was the eighth career win and second straight stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Champion sire Tempting Dash.

Carlos Saldivar conditions the Louisiana-bred gelding out of First Down Hemp by First Down Jewel. He has compiled a (19) 8-2-0 record and used the $15,000 Develop A Plan winners' purse to boost his lifetime mark to $66,511. Richard and Janelle Simon is the breeder.

Trainer John Stinebaugh saddled Grade 1-placed Colbalt Creek in his runner-up effort for owner VWP Jr., Inc. Gilbert Ortiz rode the Missouri-bred son of Walk Thru Fire out of Checnbac by Check Him Out. The $5,000 second-place check brings Cobalt Creek's earnings to $209,303. Jim Streelman and Bill Dale is the breeder.

Senator Tamale, a gelded son of Louisiana Senator, finished a head back in third for owner Angelica Davilla and trainer Javier Noel Contreras. Noe Castaneda rode the Ellen Kennedy Living Trust bred out of Real Hot Tamale by Holland Ease. He earned $2,750 for the effort.

Sent to the gate at odds of better than 19-1, Wild Tycoon rewarded his backers handsomely with payoffs of $41.60 to win, $17.20 to place and $8 to show. Cobalt Creek was worth $14.60 to place and $6.40 to show. Senator Tamale paid $7.20 to show.

Brave Heart Won, One Dimple, Johnsonengine, Jess Bein The Hero, and Kracken Black completed the field.

Delta Downs will kick of its seventh week of live American Quarter Horse racing on Wednesday night with another 10-race program at gets underway at 6:15 p.m. CT. Next week’s highlights include the $25,000 Virgil Bond Stakes on Friday night and the $60,000 Vals Fortune (RG2) on Saturday night.
