The Cartel Warrior Fastest In Old South Futurity Trials


The Cartel Warrior, under jockey Donald Guynes, battles Dezignator for the fastest qualifying time to the $81,430 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA—APRIL 22 2017—Ridden by jockey Donald Guynes, The Cartel Warrior dueled to his first career win Saturday night to post the fastest qualifying time for the Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from 54 juveniles who competed in six trails, will return to Delta Downs on Saturday, May 13th and vie for the winners' share of $81,430 purse going 330 yards.

Trainer Brian Stroud saddled the colt by third crop sire The Louisiana Cartel to the fastest qualifying time of :16.880 seconds, a 90 speed index, for owner Flat Broke Racing. Bred by Wanda King, from the Special Red Warrior mare Ace Winema, The Cartel Warrior entered the race off a third place maiden effort his first start March 19 at Louisiana Downs.

Winless in three starts, Dezignator finished a neck off The Cartel Warrior to get the second fastest time of :16.926 seconds. Robert Touchet trains the son of Dominyun for owner Guerras Racing Stables. Floriberto Maldonado rode the Bobby D. Cox Texas-bred out of Seraphima by Brimmerton.

Making his career debut, Dont Temp Me posted a nose win in the final trial to garner the third fastest time of :16.950 seconds. Rodolfo Sanchez saddled the Tempting Dash colt for owner/breeders Rigo and Sally Flores. Ridden by Eduardo Luviano, Dont Tempt Me is from the Mr Jess Perry mare Fast Prize Rose.
