Shatto Stoli Dominates Billy Montgomery Stakes at Louisiana Downs


Shatto Stoli, under jockey David Alvarez, winning the $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes Saturday at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 14, 2017—Under jockey David Alvarez Shatto Stoli recovered from bumpy start then burst to a quick lead and extended to 1˝ lengths over Lil Bro Big Streak in the $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes Saturday afternoon at Louisiana Downs. Tf Eyesa Firefighter finished a head back in third place.

Trainer Rosendo Valdez, Jr. saddled the multiple stakes winning son of Stoli for owner Rosendo Valdez. It was the third career win in 11 starts for the 3-year-old and the $15,000 winner's purse boosted his earnings total to $62,325.

Bred by Juan San Miguel, Jr., from the Mr Jess Perry mare Scoopie Choochie, Shatto Stoli won the Louisiana QHBA Breeders' Invitational two races back at Evangeline Downs. He broke his maiden in his first start last March at Louisiana Downs.

Lil Bro Big Streak registered his second straight black type finish for trainer Trey Ellis and owner Melvin Hatley 1987 Trust. The Jet Black Patriot gelding was second in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile(RG2) in his last start. Alfonso Lujan rode the 3-year-old out of Annas Streakin Dash by Streakin La Jolla. The Bobby Miller Louisiana-bred earned $5,000 to bring his mark to $61,280.

Tf Eyesa Firefighter, a Fighter On Fire gelding out of Eyes R Special by Mr Eye Opener, races for owner La Herradura Racing LLC and trainer Erasmo Hernandez. Steve Tate bred the multiple stakes-placed gelding. J.R. Ramirez was up to earn $2,750.

Post-time favorite Jess A Little Star finished fourth followed by Mps Shake Em N Style, Corazon Dfuego, Oak Almighty, Princess Quick Jet, Fabulously Fast Game and This Game Is Real.
