Dragon N Panther Tops Colt & Gelding Trainees Friday night at Delta Downs


Delta Downs hosted 16 training races for two-year-old colts and geldings on Friday night.

VINTON, LA—APRIL 8, 2016—Richard Cantu's Dragon N Panther defeated Two Special Corona by a nose Friday night to post the top training time from 119 Louisiana-bred colts and geldings who remain eligible to Delta Downs LQHBA Laddie Futurity(RG2) or the Old South Futurity.

S. Ramirez, Jr. saddled the Dragon Wings gelding out of the winning Panther Mountain mare Mountain Woman, to a :12.310 clocking for the 220 yards. R.L. Richard bred the 2-year-old.

Simon Escamilla's Two Special Corona tied for the second fastest time of :12.360 seconds. A late entry into Friday's training races, the trainer and jockey information was not available for the son of Copacorona Special out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Rosie O Dash. Frank Cavazos is the breeder.

Luis Martinez' Notovas Runaway scored a one-length win in Race 9 to tie for the second fastest time of :13.360. Trained by G. Tristan, the Sir Runaway Dash colt entered the training race off a fifth place effort in his maiden start March 23 at Louisiana Downs. Carl and Carla Chaisson bred the gray gelding from the Stoli mare Natovas Cowgirl.

Jess Ah Brother won Race 14 by three-quarters to get the fourth fastest clocking of :12.376. Willie Simien, Jr. trains the Jess Louisiana Blue colt for owner Donald Guedry. Jumonville Farms bred the $20,000 LQHBA Sale graduate from the Chicks Beduino mare Ah Beduino.
