Bullet Proof Patriot Breaks Maiden In Louisiana Downs Maiden Stakes

BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 27, 2017—Bullet Proof Patriot (17-1) edged ahead of Eye Opening Bux in the final strides to break his maiden while winning the $48,887 Louisiana Maiden Stakes (not black-type) on Saturday afternoon.

Ridden by jockey Eddie Sanchez, Bullet Proof Patriot was all out from the gate while finishing the 350 yards in :18.139 seconds with a 7 mph tailwind. The $21,999 Maiden winner's purse boosted his career total to $23,199.

Trainer Willie Simien, Jr. saddled the son of Jet Black Patriot for owner Miguel Aguilar. Bred by Courtney Trahan, from the Steakin La Jolla mare Ms Wandas La Jolla, Bullet Proof Patriot entered the final off a second place effort to fastest qualifier Mayor Stoli in the February 6th trials. Prior to that he was seventh in a maiden race at Delta Downs last June in his only start at 2.

Still a maiden after three starts, Eye Opening Bux vied throughout but came up second for owner/breeder Julien Stevens, Jr. and trainer Paul Rigdon. Juan Garcia had the riding call aboard the Zoomin for Bux filly out of Eye Opening Dash, by Toast To Dash. The Louisiana-bred earned $8,311 for her effort.

Fastest qualifier Mayor Stoli, bumped at the start under jockey Raul Ramirez Jr., finished a neck back in the blanket finish in third. Trainer Carlos Saldivar conditions the gelded son of leading sire Stoli for owner Alejandro Sanchez, Jr. Kathleen and Steve Billings bred Mayor Stoli in Louisiana from the Bully Bullion mare Susanna M Salter. He picked up $4,889 to bring his record to (9) 1-3-3 with earnings of $19,294.

Toasting Dash, Agoutis Snowplow, Fast Prize Jess, Auto Box, Mps Rappin For Bux, Off Road Princess and Tm Chick a Dee Dee completed the field.
