Ec Cartel, Scoopies Leaving You Take Undercard Stakes at Evangeline


Ec Cartel, under jockey Francisco Calderon, winning the $30,000 IP 870 Stakes Saturday night at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 19, 2015—Evangeline Downs hosted the $30,000 IP 870 Stakes and $30,000 Sam's Town Stakes as undercard races on Saturday's final card for the 2015 Quarter Horse season.

IP 870 Stakes

Ec Cartel raced to his third consecutive win with an impressive 1-½ length showing over Jessa Little Rusty in the $30,000 IP 870 Stakes. Kr Jess Hopeful finished 1-¼ lengths back in third.

Ridden by jockey Francisco Calderon, the multiples stakes winning Tinys First Corona 6-year-old covered the 870 yards in :46.265 seconds, a 90 speed index. The $15,000 winner's purse boosted the bay's earnings to nearly $80,000.

Trey Ellis saddled the Texas bred winner for owner Alejandra Carrion. Enrique Carrion bred Ec Cartel in Texas from the Zevi (TB) mare Twayna Too.

John Stinebaugh saddled graded stakes winner Jessa Little Rusty to his second place effort for owner Louis Howard. Clyde Wilmont bred the Mr Jess Perry 5-year-old in Texas from the Royal Quick Dash mare Rustys Quickid. Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, the bay earned $5,000 to push his earnings to $130,287.

R and R Racing, Inc.'s Kr Jess Hopeful earned $3,300 for third. Ray Robbins conditions the Jess Louisiana Blue gelding out of Blankie, by Pritzi Dash. Donell Blake rode the Kenneth Roberts, Sr. Louisiana-bred stakes winner of $65.420.

Ec Cartel was sent off as the 3-2 betting favorite in the IP 870 Stakes, paying $5.00 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.20 to show. Jessa Little Rusty finished second and paid $3.00 to place and $2.60 to show. Kr Jess Hopeful came home third, returning $2.20 to show.

Keepn It Kool, Sheza Gamer and The Game Lover completed the field.

Sam's Town Stakes

Scoopies Leaving Your moved back into the win column following a half-length win over Cartels Fortune in the $30,000 Sam's Town Stakes Saturday night at Evangeline. Tf Eyes R Struttin finished a head behind in the show slot.

Ridden by Donald Watson, Scoopies Leaving Your entered the race off a second place effort in the Jess Meche Memorial Stakes on November 28th. Prior to that the Coronas Leaving You 4-year-old who back-to-back stakes at Delta and the Fair Grounds.

Despite stumbling at the start, the Kevin Broussard trainee completed the 350 yards in :17.693 seconds to earn a 95-speed index.

The $15,000 winner's purse rolled the 11-time winners earnings total to $195,780.

Joel Galindo owns the brown colt out of Ms Scoopies Toast, by Toast To Dash. Gerald Libersat is the breeder.

Cartels Fortune rallied under jockey Lucas Constantin to finish second for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. and owner Rodney Verret. Jerry West bred the Carters Cartel filly in Louisiana from the First Down Jewel mare Jewels Fortune. The graded stakes-placed 4-year-old has earned $128,750.

Outkicked for the place spot, Tf Eyes Are Struttin picked up $3,300 for finishing third. Coming off back-to-back stakes wins at the Fair Grounds and Evangeline Downs the Louis Johnson, Jr. owned daughter of Struttin To Beduino is out of Eyes R Special, by Mr Eye Opener. Steve Tate bred the multiple stakes winner of $181,635.

Scoopies Leaving You returned $18.20 to win, $6.60 to place and $4.20 to show. Cartels Fortune finished second and paid $10.60 to place and $5.00 to show, while third-place finisher Tf Eyes R Struttin paid $3.00 to show

Completing the field were Jw Divino Comento, Sleepers Best Corona, The Eagle Express, Quic Carter, Allizoom, T Boy G and Chale Viejo.
