Heza Fast Rogue Wins Amelia Belle Stakes, Trainer and Jockey Earn Stakes Sweep On Opening Weekend


Jockey Donald Watson gets his second stakes win of the weekend aboard Heza Fast Rogue in the Amelia Belle Stakes on Saturday night at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—OCTOBER 3, 2015—Brock Broussard and Bourque Broussard’s Heza Fast Rogue closed quickly to win the $35,000 Amelia Belle Stakes on Saturday night at Evangeline Downs. The colt is trained by Kevin Broussard, who is Brock’s father. The win earned the trainer a sweep of the two stakes races on Opening Weekend.

Broussard won Friday’s $20,000 EVD Dash with Scoopies Leaving You. Additionally, Donald Watson was in the saddle for the win. He had been aboard Scoopies Leaving You on Friday as well.

Heza Fast Rogue covered 350 yards over a fast track in :17.568 seconds for a speed index of 96. He defeated Jw Divino Comento by a half-length and Jjs Black Lace was a further head behind in third. The victory by Heza Fast Rogue was the eighth of his 28-race career and the $21,000 he earned for the win increased his lifetime earnings to $306,950.

Triple M Farms, LLC bred the son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash from the Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue. The 4-year-old has compiled a (28) 8-3-5 record with earnings of $306,950.

Jw Divino Comento races for owner Ax'l Metal Roofing and trainer Orlando Orozco. Ridden by jockey John Hamilton the 4-year-old earned $7,000.

Shelly Van Ness saddled Jjs Black Lace for owner Felipe Amaro. Raul Ramirez, Jr. rode the Jet Black Patriot 4-year-old from the Dash To Chivato mare Lethal N Lace. Bred by Jackie and Jim Berard, Jjs Black Lace picked up $3,850 for the effort.

Heza Fast Rogue was sent off as the 5-2 second choice by the wagering public and paid $7.20 to win, $4.20 to place, and $2.40 to show. Jw Divino Comento returned $8.80 to place and $3.40 to show. Jjs Black Lace paid $2.60 to show. The 4-5 betting favorite, First Prize Copy, finished fourth.

Bradys March Madness completed the field. Fast Talkin Henry, Fjr Bread N Butter, Jessjinging and Scooter Prize were all scratched.
