Sr Shambles Turns Tables On Droff, Takes Old South Derby at Delta Downs

Tonight (Friday), under jockey Jorge Linares, Sr Shambles broke on top, as the post time favorite from the #2 post, before quickly extending his lead to one-length. Drifting out late he held a half-length advantage at the wire over Droff to take home the $34,776 Old South Derby winners' purse.
The Josue Ponce conditioned son of champion sire Desirio completed the 350 yard task in a quick :17.253 seconds, to earn a 102 speed index. Racing for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Sr Shambles has compiled a (10) 6-4-0 record and banked more than $135,000.
Bred in Oklahoma by Jovetta Meredith, from the Azoom mare Parisa, Sr Shambles won the Heartland Futurity last year and was a finalist in the Firecracker Futurity(G2), QHRA of Indiana SSA Auction Futurity, Governors Stakes and Evangeline Downs Futurity.

Third-place finisher Stone Cold Leader, who races for owner Patrick Richardson and trainer Joe Davis, bobbled the start and was bumped but put in late rally to finish in the show position. Rolando Del Rio Pina rode the Brookstone Bay Indiana-bred out of Sheza Classy Leader by Leader Of The Class. The $6,955 payday raised the multiple stakes winners earnings mark to more than $202,000.
The Carter II, Down N Cruzin, Mighty B Grateful, Sunset Run, Jess Adalida, Vella Buena and Mystical Jess completed the field.
