Royal Aztec Gets Second Stakes Win at Fairgrounds


Royal Aztec, under jockey Floriberto Maldonado, winning the $40,000 Lake View Dash Saturday at Fairgrounds Racecourse.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—SEPTEMBER 9, 2017—Royal Aztec easily defeated Sweet Bru in the $40,000 Lake View Dash to score his second straight stakes win at Fairgrounds Racecourse Saturday afternoon. Magic Black Jack finished a head back in third.

Coming off a win in the Gentilly Dash on August 19, Royal Aztec completed the 250 yards in :12.982 seconds, a 99 speed index into a 15 mph tailwind. Jockey Floriberto Maldonado had the riding assignment for trainer Orlando Orozco.

Luis Armando Castellanos is the owner/breeder of the son of Zoomin For Bux from the Royal Symphony mare Eyes Wacky. The 4-year-old has compiled a (17) 6-3-3 and the $24,000 Lake View winner's purse boosted his career total to nearly $130,000.

Runner-up Sweet Bro races for owner Jose Ortiz and trainer Gary Shane Mason. Richardo Hernandez, Jr. rode the Embrjuo Fg filly out of Dashin Sweetpea by Dashin Bye. Bred by Ceburn Banker, Jr., the multiple stakes-paced 4-year-old earned $8,000 for her effort.

Jockey Everardo Rodriguez was aboard third-place finisher for trainer Martin Trejo. Ana Alvidez owns the graded stakes winner son of Jet Black Patriot from the Stoli mare Stoli Alikat. The $4,400 payday boosted her earnings total to $226,246. Willie Salard is the breeder.
