Fastest Qualifier Tee Ray Returns To Win Louisiana Downs Maiden Stakes


Tee Ray, under jockey Damian Martinez, wins the 5th running of the $47,242 Louisiana Downs Maiden Stakes Saturday afternoon at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 11, 2017—Fastest qualifier Tee Ray made it two-straight by defeating Bubba Mallard by a half-length in the $47,242 Louisiana Downs Maiden Stakes (not black type) Saturday afternoon at Louisiana Downs. Dashing Illusively finished three-quarters back in the show position.

Jockey Damian Martinez hustled Tee Ray to a quick lead and kept to task as he completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.604 seconds, a 99-speed index against a 15-mph crosswind. The $21,259 winner's purse boosted the 3-year-old Tee Cos gelding's earnings total to $39,589.

Gary Mason conditions the brown gelding for owner Benigno Sanchez, Jr. Bred by Darling Farms LLC, Tee Ray is out of the Cause For Pause thoroughbred mare Fleet Rayburn. He has compiled a (9) 2-3-1 record.

Bubba Mallard races for owner Salvador Marquez and trainer Michael Taylor. John Hamilton had the riding call aboard the Sir Runaway Dash gelding out of Miss Mallard by First Down Jewel. He earned $8,031 for the effort.

Anthony Arey saddled Dashin Illusively to his third-place finish for owner William Hall. Edgar Baca rode the Daniel Trahan Louisiana-bred 4-year-old son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash. Out of the Dash For Cash mare Real Or Imagined, Dashin Illusively picked up $4,724.

Tee Ray returned $6.20 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.60 to show as the post-time favorite. Bubba Mallard paid $4.00 and $2.80 and Dashing Illusively returned $7.60 to show.

Ojos de Angel, Grants Game, Toast To Logan, Black Ice, Nanas Leaving You, One Sexy Mvp and Fabiolas Glitter Jet completed the field.
