Scooter Prize, Hezafastnfun Wins Fair Grounds Stakes on Saturday


Jockey David Alvarez pilots Scooter Prize to victory in the $50,000 Mid City Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course Saturday night.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 29, 2014—Fair Grounds Race Course hosted the $50,000 Mid City Stakes and the $40,000 De Saix Stakes on Saturday's race card.

Mid City Stakes

Multiple graded stakes winner Scooter Prize broke sharp under jockey David Alvarez to defeat Shesa Dashingromance by half-a-length Saturday evening in the $50,000 Mid City Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course. JJs Black Lace and Heza Fast Rogue dead-heated for third.

Scooter Prize completed the 400 yards in :19.536 seconds, a 105-speed index, to pocket the $30,000 winner's purse. It was the 10th career win for the First Prize Perry filly owned by Ana Alvidrez. Martin Trejo conditions the sorrel from the A Royale High mare Royal Baby Scooter.

Bred in John Leger, Scooter Prize has earned $293,395. Her record stands at (30) 10-6-4.

Lanny Keith trains multiple stakes-placed Shesa Dashingromance for owner Joseph Brignac. Everardo Rodriguez had the riding assignment aboard the Heza Fast Dash 6-year-old out of Dash N To Romance, by Mr Jess Perry. Bred by Donald Moran, Jr., the black mare picked up $10,000 to boost her earnings to $77,135.

Jjs Black Lace is a 4-year-old Jet Black Patriot out of Lethal N Lace, by Dash To Chivato. Carlos Saldivar trains the gray gelding for owner Felipe Amaro. Raul Ramirez, Jr. had the riding assignment. Jackie and Jim Berard bred the stakes-placed earner of nearly $95,000.

Multiple graded stakes-placed Heza Fast Rogue used the $4,250 third place check to bring his earnings to more than $285,000. Kevin Broussard trains the Heza Fast Dash 4-year-old for Brock Broussard and Jacque Bourque. Donald Watson had the riding call.

Fast Talkin Henry, Pops Special Tool, Bipty Dash and Philips Streakin completed the field.

De Saix Stakes

Bouncing off a 10th place effort at Delta Downs in his last start, Hezafastnfun broke sharp and held off Sistahrogue by half-a-length in the $40,000 De Saix Stakes for 2-year-olds Saturday at Fair Grounds Race Course. Fast Ladys Man finished another half-side back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr., Hezafastnfun covered the 330 yards in :16.723 seconds to earn a 95-speed index into a 4 mph headwind. Off at 12-1 odds, the brown Heza Fast Dash gelding rewarded backers with a $25 win payoff.

Justin Haug saddled Hezafastnfun to his second win in five starts for owner Michael Byrd. Bred by Mars Racing, from the Streakin La Jolla mare Streakin Fast N Fun, the gelding picked up $24,000 almost doubling his earnings to more than $41,000.

Kenneth Roberts, Sr. saddled Sistahrogue for owner Pat Crabtree. Triple M Farms, LLC bred the Teller Cartel Texas-bred from the Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue. Pat Watson had the riding assignment and earned $6,000 for the effort.

Fast Lady Man, a Jet Black Patriot homebred for Timothy and Theresa Stephens, earned $4,400 for third. Trey Ellis trains the gelding out of Miss Fortune Lady, by Royal Quick Dash. Saul Ramirez, Jr. was up.

Moonflash Garden, Laveauxs Oak Tree, Windschke, Twelve Squared, Jla Southern Comfort, Eyes On Chris and Red Cat Alak completed the field.
