Magic Patriot Tops Second Night of Schooling Races at Delta


Delta Downs hosted a second night of schooling races for two-year-olds on Saturday.

VINTON, LA—APRIL 4, 2015—Magic Patriot, a $31,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate posted the top time from over 90 colts and geldings who participated in 14 schooling races at Delta Downs Saturday night.

The track held the second day of schooling races for two-year-olds who remain eligible for the LQHBA Lassie Futurity(RG2), LQHBA Laddie Futurity(RG2) and the Old South Futurity. The track will open its 2015 Quarter Horse Meet on April 22. Friday's 14 schooling races for fillies.

Racing for owners Jon Price and Lester Colomb, Jr., Magic Patriot covered the 220 yard course in :12.216 seconds to record the top mark in Race 3. Kenny Weeks conditions the Jet Black Patriot out of the RG2 placed and multiple stakes producing Rocket's Magic mare BBS Magic Quarter.

The half-brother to Delta Downs Louisiana Breeders' Derby winner BBS First Beduino ($348,613) entered the schooling races after finishing off-the-board in two starts at Louisiana Downs last month. Noe Castanada was riding.

Morgans Leaving You, a Coronas Leaving You who also had a start at Louisiana Downs last month, finished second in Race 3 and posted the second fastest time of :12.286. Kevin Broussard trains the gelding out of Miss Ice Gator (TB) by John's Choice (TB), owners Sedric and Lynette Breaux. Donald Watson had the riding assignment.

Jls Rebssecondcomin recorded the third fastest time following a win in Race 4. Darrel Soileau trains the home-bred son of Stoli for owner/breeder JLS Speedhorse Ranch, Inc. The sorrel gelding entered the training races off a third place effort in the Harrah's Entertainment Futurity trials on March 1st. Out of the stakes winning Reb's Policy (TB) mare Do It To It Reb ($67,849), he is a half-brother to five stakes horses including RG3 winner Get It Reb ($239,08) and All American Futurity(G1) third place finisher Tee Cos ($246,396), etc. Zacharie Kelsey was up.

Trials for the 2015 Lassie Futurity will contested on Friday, April 24 and trials for the 2015 Laddie Futurity are set for Saturday, April 25 at Delta Downs. The finals for the $75,000-added RG2 events over 330 yards will be run back on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16.

Trials to the Old South Futurity will be contested on May 1 with the $25,000-added final, also at 330 yards, set for Friday, May 22.

The 2015 Delta Downs Quarter Horse Meet will be run from April 22 thru July 11. The track will host the Louisiana Showcase Night on July 11 with eight stakes races for state-breds headed by the RG1 $200,000-added Lee Berwick Futurity.
