Mardi Gras Futurity Trials Set for Friday, Saturday

BOSSIER CITY, LA–FEBRUARY 28, 2023–
A total of 171 state-bred 2-year-olds, headed by recent schooling race standouts Roundin Third and Mister Tsunami, are entered in this weekend's 300-yard Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs.

A dozen trials are scheduled for both Friday and Saturday. First post time for both days is set for 12:35 p.m. (CST). The five fastest qualifiers from Friday's and Saturday's heats will meet in the March 25, $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity final.

Roundin Third is a sorrel son of champion Stoli trained by Fernando Valdez for owner Lorena Morales. On February 8, the gelding posted the fastest winning time from 16 training races, as he covered 220 yards in :12.508.

Roundin Third is out of Allizoom, a winning and multiple stakes placed daughter of the Mr Jess Perry stallion First Prize Perry. The gelding drew post 3 and will be ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr. in Saturday's ninth heat.

A gelded son of the Corona Cartel stallion Rip Tide, Mister Tsunami is trained by Guillermo Martinez for owner Rene Adan Rodriguez. Mister Tsunami won the ninth training race on February 8, covering 220 yards in :12.514 for the second-fastest schooling race time.

Mister Tsunami is out of winning Game Patriot mare Forever Game. The gelding drew post 7 and will be ridden by Ubaldo Luna in Friday's third trial.
