Old South Futurity, Mother's Day Stakes Key Saturday Program at Delta Downs


Fastest qualifier Jes An Angel will head a group of 10 freshmen in Saturday's 330-yard, $148,040 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA--May 18, 2022--Ten 2-year-olds, topped by fastest qualifier Jes An Angel, are entered back in Saturday's 330-yard, $148,040 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.

A $10,000 purchase at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, Jes An Angel set the fastest qualifying time with her three-quarter length victory in third of seven Old South Futurity trials on April 30. The Jess Zoomin filly has earned $11,286 from three races, and she was a finalist in the April 3, $324,000 Louisiana Downs Futurity (G3).

Jes An Angel drew post 6 and will be ridden by Camilo Castillo for owner Lance R. Moore and trainer Dustin Rhodes.

Also on Saturday, seven distaffers are entered in the 350-yard, $25,000 Mother's Day Stakes for fillies and mares.

Patrick Richardson's Sheza Freighttrain T, a 4-year-old daughter of Freighttrain B trained by Charles "Duke" Shults, is coming off of a second-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner Relentlessly, in the April 16, 300-yard Bob Moore Memorial Stakes (G2) at Remington Park. The mare has won four of her five starts at Delta Downs, including two stakes during the track's 2021 meet.

Sheza Freighttrain T drew post 5 and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez.
