Louisiana QHBA Million Futurity Trials Draw 137 State-Bred Juveniles


San Lorenzo is one of four graded futurity winners set to compete in two nights of trials for the $1,000,000 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) next week at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 14, 2020—A total of 137 state-bred 2-year-olds -- led by graded stakes winners San Lorenzo, Sir Louisiana Dash, A Double Corona, and El Camino CL -- are entered in next week’s 400-yard Louisiana QHBA Million Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs.

The Louisiana QHBA Million Futurity is one of the state’s richest Quarter Horse races. Seven trials will be contested on Friday and Saturday. The five fastest qualifiers from each night of trials will meet in the December 19, $1-million final.

San Lorenzo is one of 68 juveniles entered in Friday’s seven heats. Trained by Hector Alcala for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr., the bay Coronas Leaving You colt has earned $547,570 from four races, and his three wins include a half-length victory in the 350-yard, $1.026-million Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs on August 22.

David Alvarez will ride San Lorenzo from post 4 in Friday’s seventh trial.

Sir Louisiana Dash, A Double Corona, and El Camino CL are among the 69 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s seven heats. A sorrel Sir Runaway Dash gelding owned by Rogelio Marquez Jr. and trained by Hector Alcala, Sir Louisiana Dash has won two of three races, including the 330-yard, $358,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs on the Fourth of July, and he has banked $187,390.

Sir Louisiana Dash drew post 8 and will be ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr. in Saturday’s first trial.

A Double Corona is coming off of a clear 1 1/2-length victory in the 350-yard, $476,000 Louisiana QHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs on October 22. Jose Luis Sanchez III trains the gelded son of Open Me A Corona for owners Tommy Hays and Bobby J. Barnett.

A Double Corona drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jorge Linares in Saturday’s second trial.

El Camino CL races for Delfino Lozano IV from the barn of trainer Jose Luis Sanchez III. The Heza Fast Dash colt has qualified to three graded futurities this year, and he began his career with a three-race win streak that included a neck victory in the 300-yard, $315,000 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs in March.

El Camino CL drew post 2 and will be ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr. in Saturday’s sixth heat.
