Rich Evangeline Downs Futurity Headlines Saturday Card


Fastest qualifier Domishay heads a field of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 400-yard, $295,890 Evangeline Downs Futurity at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 10, 2019—Domishay, a son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Dominyun and the fastest qualifiers, heads a field of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 400-yard, $295,890 Evangeline Downs Futurity at Evangeline Downs.

Trained by Josue Ponce for owner Paula Cristina Villatoro, Domishay made his local debut with a clear 1 3/4-length victory in the sixth of nine trials on November 22. The Louisiana-bred colt has won five of 10 starts and has earned $64,615, and he was a finalist in the October 5, $344,050 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Domishay drew post 2 and will be ridden by Jesse Levario.

Relentless Dynasty, a graded stakes winning Hes Relentless colt trained by Adrian Huitron for owner Andres Guerra, drew post 10 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. Relentless Dynasty has earned $217,667 from five outs, and his two wins include a neck victory in the 350-yard, $474,750 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park in July.

Also on Saturday, Javier Rosique’s Jordan Eagle heads a field of 10 sophomores entered back in the 400-yard, $137,020 Evangeline Downs Derby.

Jordan Eagle is a brown son of One Famous Eagle trained by Josue Ponce. The colt has won four of seven outs, including last year’s 311,000 Evangeline Downs Futurity, and he has earned $183,011, of which $162,913 has been banked from three races at Evangeline Downs.

Jordan Eagle drew post 6 and will be ridden by Jesse Levario.

Two more stakes will be contested at Evangeline Downs on Saturday, including the 350-yard, $20,000 Sam’s Town Stakes. Trainer Josue Ponce will send out graded stakes winner Kas Tempting for the Garza Laurel Partnership LLC. A homebred 4-year-old son of champion Tempting Dash, the stallion has won two stakes this season, including the 440-yard, $65,637 Bank of America Texas Championship Challenge (G2) at Sam Houston Race Park in May. Kas Tempting drew post 10 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr.

Ten middle-distance specialists are entered in Saturday’s 550-yard, $20,000 EVD 550 Handicap. David Dunn’s Eagle Deluxe, a 4-year-old One Famous Eagle stallion trained by Heath Taylor, drew post 8 and will be ridden by Donell Blake. Eagle Deluxe will be making his first start at the 550-yard trip off of a second-place finish, a neck behind winner Admiral Sting, in the 440-yard, $50,000 Two Rivers Stakes (G3) at Prairie Meadows on October 12.
