Magnolia Stakes Attracts Full Field of State-Bred Distance Specialists

BOSSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 1, 2017—A full field of state-bred distance specialists, topped by six-time 870-yard winner Im Mighty Fast, has been entered in Saturday’s $25,000 Magnolia Stakes (R) at Louisiana Downs.

Trained by Guadalupe Tristan for Ricardo Castillo’s Triple C Racing Stables, Im Mighty Fast will be making his 4-year-old season debut in the Magnolia. Last fall, the bay son of Mighty Corona put together a five-race win streak that included a head victory in the 870-yard, $30,000 Races N Aces Stakes (R) at Evangeline Downs in November 5.

Im Mighty Fast has won seven of 20 starts, including six of nine at the 870 distance, and has banked $73,380. The gelding drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jose A. Rodriguez.

Other contenders include Cesar E. Rodriguez’s Sir Lucky Strike. A 5-year-old Strong Hope gelding trained by Willie Simien Jr., Sir Lucky Strike has won five of his eight outs at the 870-yard trip and will be ridden by Donell Blake from post 8.
