Streaking Open Me A Corona Returns in Louisiana Champions Day Classic


Open Me A Corona will head the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic Stakes (RG2), one of three Quarter Horse stakes scheduled for Louisiana Champions Day Fair Grounds Racecourse on Saturday.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—DECEMBER 7, 2015—Open Me A Corona will put his five-race win streak on the line in the 440-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic Stakes (RG2), one of three Quarter Horse stakes scheduled for Fair Grounds Racecourse on Saturday.

A 5-year-old son of Coronas Leaving You trained by Bobby Martinez for owners Charles Forbes Jr. and Tommy Hays, Open Me A Corona has won all five of his starts -- all against state-bred stakes company -- and has banked $171,000 this season. The stallion is coming off of a convincing two-length victory as the 4-5 favorite in the 400-yard, $50,000 Opelousas Stakes (R) at Evangeline Downs on November 14.

Saul Ramirez Jr. will ride Open Me A Corona from post 6 on Saturday. The stallion’s six opponents include Heza Fast Rogue, a 4-year-old Heza Fast Dash stallion who has run second to Open Me A Corona in his last two outs. Kevin Broussard trains Heza Fast Rogue for owners Brock Broussard and Jacque Bourque.

Heza Fast Rogue drew post 5 and will be ridden by Donald Watson.

Also on Saturday, Douglas O. Traylor’s Telarosa is one of 16 state-bred 2-year-olds entered in the 350-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes (RG2).

A sorrel daughter of Jet Black Patriot trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., Telarosa put together a three-race win streak last summer that included the 350-yard, $304,000 LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) at Fair Grounds on September 5. The filly drew post 9 and will be ridden by Lucas Constantin.

Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG2)

TM Ranch’s Heza Louisiana Dash drew post 11 for Saturday’s 400-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG2) for state-bred sophomores.

Trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., Heza Louisiana Dash is coming off of a three-quarter length win in the 400-yard, $267,000 LQHBA Derby (R) at Evangeline Downs on November 28. The gelded son of Heza Fast Dash has won four of six outs and has earned $165,044 this season.

Gilbert Ortiz will ride Heza Louisiana Dash on Saturday.
