$329,410 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity Headlines Friday Stakes Tripleheader at Delta Downs


Fastest qualifier Ms Runaway Presence will head a full field of state-breds in Friday’s 330-yard, $329,410 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA—JULY 1, 2020—Ten state-bred 2-year-old fillies, topped by fastest qualifier Ms Runaway Presence, have entered back in Friday’s 330-yard, $329,410 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs.

Ms Runaway Presence is a gray daughter of Sir Runaway Dash trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr. for owner Douglas O. Traylor. A $27,000 purchase at last year’s Louisiana QHBA Yearling Sale, the filly made her debut with a one-length victory in the 13th of 15 trials on June 12.

Ms Runaway Presence drew post 8 and will be ridden by Noe Castaneda. Other contenders include Patrick Richardson’s Sheza Freighttrain T, a graded stakes placed Freighttrain B filly trained by Eric Long. Sheza Freighttrain T has won two of three starts and has earned $63,179, and her record includes a second-place finish, a neck behind winner El Camino CL, in the March 14, $315,000 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs.

Sheza Freighttrain T was a $50,000 buy at last year’s LQHBA Yearling Sale. The filly drew the rail post and will be ridden by Rolando Pina.

Two other stakes will be contested at Delta Downs on Friday, including the 350-yard, $98,150 Old South Derby. Mr Tereso, a stakes-placed son of Man Who Wouldbe King trained by Fernando Lopez for owner Jose U. Oviedo, drew post 2 and will be ridden by Luis Vivanco. Mr Tereso has won six of nine starts and has banked $147,901, and he is coming off of a 2-year-old campaign during which he ran second in the 400-yard, $296,000 Evangeline Downs Futurity and was a finalist in the 400-yard, $344,000 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Ten Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds are entered in Friday’s 400-yard, $50,000 Vinton Stakes R. Jose U. Oviedo’s Jess U R Blue, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, drew post 6 and will be ridden by Luis Vivanco for trainer Fernando Lopez. A bay son of Jess Louisiana Blue, the gelding is coming off of a half-length victory in the 400-yard, $124,000 Mardi Gras Derby (R) at Louisiana Downs on March 14.
