Fair Grounds Meet Opens with Stakes Tripleheader


The Cazador enters Friday's $25,000 Gentilly Dash Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course off a win in the Flying Breed Stakes at Delta in his last start.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 14, 2019—Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans opens its 10-day American Quarter Horse meet with a stakes tripleheader on Friday.

Post time for the first race is set for 12 p.m. (CDT).

Rayne Knight’s The Cazador, a 4-year-old Sir Runaway Dash stallion trained by Michael Zingelmann, heads a field of nine entered in Friday’s 250-yard, $25,000 Gentilly Dash Stakes. The Cazador is coming off of a Delta Downs meet during which he won two of his three starts, including the 220-yard, $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes (R) on July 6.

The Cazador drew post 7 and will be ridden by John Hamilton.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:

Also on Friday, High And Caliente is one of 10 Louisiana-bred fillies and mares entered in the 350-yard, $40,000 Audubon Stakes (R). A 3-year-old daughter of Whathaveigottado owned and trained by Manuel Pizana, High And Caliente is coming off of a third-place finish, a head behind winner Cajun Cos, in a 330-yard, $50,000 stakes for state-bred distaffers at Delta Downs on July 6. The filly drew post 3 and will be ridden by Heriberto Aguilar-Orozco.

Jets Fast Dash is the 7-2 morning-line favorite for Friday’s 350-yard, $40,000 Treme Stakes (RG3) for Louisiana-bred sophomores. Trained by Lanny Keith for owners Danny Bourgeois and Nancy Spurgeon, the homebred Jet Black Patriot gelding has banked $34,110 from five outs this season. Jets Fast Dash drew post 2 and will be ridden by John Hamilton.
