Three State-Bred Quarter Horse Stakes Scheduled for Louisiana Champions Day at Fair Grounds

NEW ORLEANS, LA—DECEMBER 11, 2014—A full field of 12 state-bred 2-year-olds has been entered in the 350-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes (RG2), one of three Quarter Horse stakes slated for Fair Grounds Race Course on Saturday.

Joseph Landreneau’s Game, a son of Game Patriot trained by Kelli Smith, drew post 5. The gelding has earned $488,994 from eight starts, and his four wins include victories in the July 12, $646,000 Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity (RG1) and May 24, $265,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2), both at Delta Downs.

Orlando Baldillez will ride Game on Saturday.

Other contenders include Louisiana Jambalaya, a Jet Black Patriot colt racing for Mykelia Carter and Roderick Carter trained by Justin Dehart, and Fast Preacher Man, a son of Jet Black Patriot campaigned by Timothy and Theresa Stephens from the barn of Trey Ellis.

Louisiana Jambalaya has won three of five outs, including the 350-yard, $287,000 LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) at Fair Grounds, and he has earned $146,175. The colt drew post 4 and will be ridden by Lucas Constantin on Saturday.

Fast Preacher Man is coming off of a third-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner JLS Dashn And Zoomn, in the $1-milion LQHBA Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs on November 29. John Hamilton has been named to ride the colt from post 6.

A 4-year-old Bigtime Favorite gelding trained by Vann Haywood, Big Timer placed third in the 440-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Classic Stakes (RG2) at Delta Downs on July 12. Big Timer has earned $44,000 from five starts this season.

Big Timer drew post 3 and will be ridden by Dennis Means.

JLS Mr Bigtime, a homebred 6-year-old son of Bigtime Favorite racing for John Soileau’s JLS Speed Horse Ranch Inc., brings a bankroll of $999,947 from 28 starts into this race. Trained by Darrel Soileau, the gelding is coming off of a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard, $50,000 Opelousas Stakes (R) at Evangeline Downs on November 15.

Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG2)

TM Ranch’s Ol Time Preacher Man, a gelded son of Heza Fast Dash trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., is one of nine state-bred sophomores entered in the 400-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG2).

Ol Time Preacher Man has banked $56,651 from five starts this season, and his two wins include a half-length victory in the 350-yard, $60,000 Treme Derby (R) at Fair Grounds on August 16. The gelding drew post 8 and will be ridden by Patrick Watson.

Roberts will also send out Kool Design, a chestnut son of First N Kool owned by Oscar Rohne. A graded stakes winning gelding, First N Kool is coming off of a second-place finish to Ol Time Preacher Man in the Treme Derby.
