B Second Cowboy Quickest On The Draw In Evangeline Downs Futurity Trials

OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 17, 2023—Evangeline Downs held an eight-race card of qualifiers for the 2023 Evangeline Downs Futurity on Friday night.  The finals, with a total purse of $237,940, will be contested on Friday, December 15.

The fastest qualifier for the Evangeline Downs Futurity was B Second Cowboy with Sabino Reyes aboard. The Party Tyme Racing (Jerry Deville & Jose Espinosa) runner broke just better than rival JB Kool Jess and fought that runner off in a spirited battle. 

The winning margin in the fourth trial of the night was just a neck between the two fastest qualifiers.  The running time for 400 yards over a sealed track listed as good was 19.683 seconds and earned a speed index of 94.

The win is the fourth from six starts for B Second Cowboy.  The Jose Espinosa trainee earned $3,000 and increased his career bankroll to $48,723.

Bred in Texas by Jose Espinosa, B Second Cowboy is a 2-year-old sorrel gelding by Flying Cowboy 123 and is out of the Favorite Cartel mare Nsm Favorite Zoomer.

Runner-up Jb Kool Jess, under jockey Arturo Alvarez, held on for the second fastest time of :19.728 seconds, a 93 speed index.  Trainer Raul Rodriguez conditions the son of former leading sire Mr Jess Perry for owner-breeder Priscilla Arredondo.

Bred in Oklahoma, from the Corona Cartel mare Paint Your Face, Jb Kool Jess has won three of starts and banked $48,477.
