Rich Laddie Futurity Headlines Saturday Stakes Doubleheader at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—MAY 15, 2019—Fastest qualifier Ed O heads a field of 10 state-bred colts and geldings entered back in Saturday’s 330-yard, $369,405 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs.

A sorrel son of Mr Piloto trained by Jose U. Lopez for owner Edwardo Lopez, Ed O made his debut with a three-quarter length victory in the eighth of 17 Laddie Futurity trials on April 28. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Noe Villatoro.

JJ Jess An Meteorite, a homebred son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Jess An Idea owned by J & J Stables LLC, drew the rail post and will be ridden by Ricardo Hernandez Jr. for trainer Jose Carrizales. JJ Jess An Meteorite has won two of three starts and has earned $23,012, and the gelding was a finalist in the 300-yard, $305,296 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs in March.

Also on Saturday, Noe Zuniga Castaneda’s Dasha Blue heads a full field of 10 Louisiana-bred sophomores entered in the 400-yard, $50,000 Vinton Stakes (R). An earner of $242,960 from 10 races, Dasha Blue ended her 2-year-old campaign with a second-place finish, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner Mpshinning, in the 400-yard, $1-million Louisiana QHBA Million Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs on December 15.

The daughter of champion Jess Louisiana Blue drew post 10 and will be ridden by Noe Castaneda for trainer Jorge L. Gonzalez.
