Second Down Leaving Scores in the $40,000 Treme Stakes (G3) at Fair Grounds

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 16, 2018—Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots kicked of its 2018 Quarter Horse meet on Thursday, August 16. The ten-race card featured the meet’s first stakes race, the $40,000 Treme (G3) for accredited Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds going 350 yards.

Second Down Leaving ($3.80) was sent off as the favorite in the seven-horse field. With Antonio Alberto in the irons, he closed well in the final strides, winning by a neck in a time of :17.661 seconds. He earned a speed index of 91.

Bred by Grant Farms, the son of Coronas Leaving You out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Second Down Perry is owned by Eulalio Argote and Victor Alvarado. He had an excellent 2-year-old campaign, running second to Jrs Taylors Runnaway in the LQHBA Sale Futurity last September at Fair Grounds and finished his year with a game runner-up finish in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile (G2) on December 9.

He began is 3-year-old season by winning the $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes in January at Louisiana Downs and shipped to Fair Grounds off a third-place finish in the $268,655 Delta Downs Derby on July 7.

Robert Meche trains the bay gelding, who has now won six of his 11 career efforts. With his $24,000 check for today’s victory, he has now earned $185,439.

Jls Dash N Fire ran second under David Alvarez, earning $8,000 for TM Ranch. Kenneth Roberts, Sr. trains the son of Heza Fast Dash.

Longshot Razzatoni, filly by One Famous Brioni, was third with Donald Watson in the saddle and Eye Am Sizzlin completed the superfecta.

A homebred racing for Mary Thompson, Razzatoni is conditioned by Larry Kopycinski.

A Canadian Chill, Gunna Be Alright and Heza Fast Beau completed the order of finish. Jrs Taylors Runnaway and Jess a Corona Baby were early scratches.

Live racing continues Friday, August 17, with 11 trials for the $434,538 LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1). Stakes action continues on Saturday, August 18 with the running of the $40,000 Audubon and $25,000 Gentilly Dash.
