Open Me A Corona Kicks Off Season With Mr Jess Perry Victory


Open Me A Corona with Saul Ramirez, Jr. up holds off the rest of the field to win the 10th running of the Mr. Jess Perry Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER, CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 28, 2105—Multiple stakes winner Open Me A Corona kicked off his 5-year-old season with an easy victory in the $25,000 Mr Jess Perry stakes at Louisiana Downs on Saturday. It was the seventh career win in nine starts for the son of Coronas Leaving You, as well as back-to-back wins in the Mr Jess Perry.

Ridden by jockey Saul Ramirez, Jr., Open Me A Corona put in a mild drive then held well to defeat post-time favorite Scooter Prize by half-a-length. He completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.478 seconds to earn a 102 speed index.

Bobby Martinez conditions Open Me A Corona for owners Tommy Hays and Charles Forbes, Jr. Natalie Montgomery, DVM bred the former LQHBA Breeders' Futurity winner from the Me Eye Opener mare In The Open. The $15,000 Mr Jess Perry winner's purse boosted Open Me A Corona's earnings mark to more than $540,000.

Coming off back-to-back stakes wins, including the Party Girl on January 31st, Scooter Prize slow drifted as she closed well to earn $5,000 for finishing second. David Alvarez rode the 4-year-old First Prize Perry filly for owner Ana Alvidrez and trainer Martin Trejo. John Leger bred the graded multiple stakes winner, of nearly $240,000, from the A Royale High mare Royal Baby Scooter.

Multiple stakes-placed T Boy G finished a neck back in third place. Also owned by Ana Alvidrez and trained by Martin Trejo, the Sir Runaway Dash 4-year-old earned $2,750 for his effort. Martin Rubalcava had the riding assignment. Gerald Patin bred To Boy G from the Special Project mare Got A Project. He has earned $103,461.

Heza Fast Rouge, Ld Streakin N Leavin, Jethro Almitey, Heasablackmagic, Jjs Black Lace, Blue Louisiana Jolla and Rumblling Knight completed the field.
