Mag 1 Sets Top Mark in Delta's Colts & Geldings Schooling Races On Thursday


Delta Downs continued schooling races for 2-year-olds on Thursday with an 11 race card for colts and geldings.

VINTON, LA—APRIL 5, 2018—Mag 1, a colt by first-crop sire Mr Jess Kue, rolled to a three-quarter length win in the sixth of eleven 220-yard schooling races contested Thursday evening at Delta Downs for colts and geldings.

Bobby Martinez saddled the Louisiana homebred for owner/breeder H & M Racing. Under jockey Damian Martinez the bay colt clocked a time of :12.019 seconds over the 220 yards to set the fastest time. His sire Mr Jess Kue is a son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry from the world champion mare Kool Kue Baby.

Mr Jess Kue is the second foal from the RG3 winning Oak Tree Special mare Oak Tree Chic. The second dam is the Grade 3 winning Dashing Val mare Scared who is the dam of Grade 2 winner and multiple stakes sire Pool.

First-crop sire Five Bar Cartel and leading sire Heza Fast Dash continued their assault of Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds again Thursday night. Five Bar Cartel sired three winners while Heza Fast Dash scored two.

LRH Mojo Rising, under jockey Luis Vivanco, picked up the final race (11) with a half-length effort over Getting Bye On Vodka to get the second fastest time of :12.156 seconds.

Trey Ellis conditions the Heza Fast Dash gelding out of Drh Jamin Jackie by Jacksboro for owner/breeders Jetty and Donald Lemaire.

Getting Bye On Vodka, a half-brother to stakes winner and multiple stakes sire Triple Vodka, held for the third fastest time of :12.243 seconds. Michael Taylor conditions the $35,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale Graduate by Dashin Bye for Paul Watson.

Trainers Martin Trejo and Saul Ramirez, Jr. saddled two winners each on Thursdays' program.

Trejo had First Jess Cartel, a Five Bar Cartel gelding in Race 7 and the winner of the opener, Geaux Jumpin, a colt by Jumpn Chic. Ramirez saddled back-to-back winners with Ciders Runaway, a Sir Runaway Dash gelding in Race 9, and Heza Fast Eagle, a colt by Heza Fast Dash in Race 10.

Jockeys David Alvarez, Damian Martinez and Eddie Sanchez posted wins aboard three schooling winners each on Thursday night.
