Barefoot Beach Impressive In Winning The Evangeline Downs Dash


Barefoot Beach, under jockey Manuel Gutierrez, easily winning the $20,000 Evangeline Downs Dash Friday night at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—SEPTEMBER 30, 2016—Jockey Manuel Gutierrez was not originally named to ride Barefoot Beach in the $20,000 Evangeline Downs Dash on Friday night. However, he picked up the mount during the course of the evening and rode the filly to a convincing victory by three-quarters of a length over 8-1 shot, Rbd Jessaswingin, with the 2015 Evangeline Downs Dash winner, Scoopies Leaving You, right behind them in third.

Barefoot Beach covered the 220 yards of the Evangeline Downs Dash in 11.625 seconds. The race was run over a fast track and the final time equaled a speed index of 105.

The victory by Barefoot Beach was the fourth of her 15-race career. She earned $12,000 for the win, which increases her lifetime earnings to $69,909.

Barefoot Beach is a 3-year-old filly by Ivory James out of the Invisible Injun mare, Babe On The Beach. She is owned by Samuel Martinez and trained by Yoani Abreu and was bred in Texas by Bobby D. Cox.

Rbd Jessaswingin races for owner Jaime Gutierrez and trainer Guadalupe Garza, Jr. John Hamilton rode the multiple stakes-placed daughter of Swingin Jess from the Royal Quick Dash mare Furby. Bred by RB & Dox' Stables the 4-year-old earned $4,000 to increase her earnings total to $101,598.

Kevin Broussard trains Scoopies Leaving You for owner Joel Galindo. Donald Watson rode the 15-time graded stakes wining son of multiple stakes sire Coronas Leaving You. Bred by Gerald Libersat, from the Toast To Dash mare Ms Scoopies Toast, the 7-year-old horse boosted his earnings mark to $275,280.

Barefoot Beach was sent off as the 3-1 betting favorite by the wagering public and returned $8.60 to win, $5.00 to place and $4.20 to show. Rbd Jessaswingin paid $8.40 to place and $6.80 to show. Scoopies Leaving You paid $4.20 to show.

Completing the official order of finish were Corona And Jewels, Rosouti, T Boy G, Swingin Princess, Bp Holland Cartel, Pyc First Prize Mia and Cartel Jr.

The opening weekend of the 2016 American Quarter Horse season will continue on Saturday night with the featured event being the $30,000 Amelia Belle at 350 yards for 3-year-olds and up. The 8-5 morning line favorite is the Bobby Martinez-trained gelding Open Me a Corona, an earner of nearly $900,000 in his career. Post time for the Saturday program will be 5:35 pm Central Time.
