Fastest Qualifier Mayleen Pyc Gets Up in Grade 3 Harrah's Entertainment Futurity

BOSSIER CITY, LA—MARCH 21, 2015—Fastest qualifier Mayleen Pyc got up at the wire to become the first graded stakes winning two-year-old of the season on Saturday when she defeated A Kool Secret by a neck in the Grade 3 $240,910 Harrah's Entertainment Futurity at Louisiana Downs. Time For The Senator finished a head off the leaders in third.

Ridden by jockey Ricky Ramirez, Mayleen Pyc covered the 300 yards, over a sloppy racecourse, in :15.493 seconds to earn a 95 speed index. It was the second win as many starts for the Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly that entered the race off her two-length trial win on March 1st when she was the fastest qualifier.

Salvador Flores conditions the bay filly for owner Leticia Contreras. The $108,910 winner's purse boosted her earnings total to $110,810 put her at the top of the leader board in two-year-old money earners this year.

Bred in Oklahoma by Michael Pohl, from the Royal Shake Em mare Ima Misty Royal, Mayleen Pyc sold under the name Distracshun in the 2014 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale for $15,000.

Bothered in the stretch, A Kool Secret put in a late rush to finish second for owner/breeder Norma Guerrero and Cynthia Cruz. Isidro Flores trains and Francisco Calderon rode the California-bred son of All American Futurity(G1) winner No Secret Here out of the Shazoom mare A Kool Zoom. The sorrel colt earned $40,955 for his second place effort.

Louisiana Senator became the first first-crop sire of his generation to get a black-type foal when Time For The Senator finished third for owner/trainer Jorge Haddad. David Alvarez rode the $15,000 Heritage Place Sale graduate who earned $24,092 for her effort. J.E. Jumonville, Jr. bred Time For A Senator in Louisiana from the Apollo (TB) mare In His Dreams.

Completing the official order of finish were Tg Coronas Memory, So Smart, First Kool, Ferarri Gt, Baby Separatista, Cartel Gigi and Ocean Jess Cartel.
