Champion Five Bar Cartel Arrives in Louisiana


Last year's Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Five Bar Cartel settles into his stall in the Robicheaux Ranch stallion barn.

BREAUX BRIDGE, LA–DECEMBER 22, 2014—Christmas came early this year at Robicheaux Ranch with the arrival of last year's AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Five Bar Cartel.

The son of leading living sire Corona Cartel will begin his stallion career at the Breaux Bridge, Louisiana ranch for the 2015 introductory fee of $4,500.

“Our phones have already been busy with breeding inquiries for this champion colt. We invite everyone to stop by the ranch and see him,” said ranch manager Ryan Robicheaux.

Five Bar Cartel is one of very few horses to qualify for three million dollar races as a two-year-old. The winner of eight of 11 starts, including the Grade 1 $1,071,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity, earned $1,068,825.

He was second in this year’s $1,920,887 All American Derby-G1 and a finalist in the $1,044,700 Golden State Million-G1, $1,989,525 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1 and $972,100 Los Alamitos Super Derby(G1).

Five Bar Cartel’s dam is the Grade 1 winning Dash Ta Fame mare Five Bar Molly. She was a hard-knocking stakes horse, with wins at two, three, four and a stretch in Mexico match racing under the name “La Vispa” until returning to retire at Los Alamitos in 2007 with wins in the Miss Princess Handicap-G3 and the Vessels Maturity-G1 at the age of nine. She is also the dam of Grade 1 runners Freedom Choice, $281,423, Mollys Cartel, $150,163 and Fly Bar Special, $110,787.
